Our Hometown Northridge is located in the northern part of the San Fernando Valley, sheltered by the majestic Santa Susana Mountains. This fertile agricultural area first became renowned as a shipping point for all types of produce, from nuts and olives to citrus and wheat. Later its fame grew as a hideaway to the stars, when the likes of Clark Gable, Carol Lombard, and Barbara Stanwyck built horse ranches here to escape from their hectic Hollywood lives. Today, with excellent schools, a low crime rate, and a mild Mediterranean climate, Northridge attracts thousands of people, who find the city an ideal community to live and do business in. It is home to the region's largest regional shopping mall, a growing number of medical, biotech, and technology industries, and Cal State University, Northridge, the third largest university in the state with approximately 30,000 students.
