The following is an account of how MSJ was able to support one of our employees: "I began my career here at Mercy San Juan Medical Center in 1990 as a patient transporter. In 1992, I moved on an opportunity to become a department aide in the Operating Room. This quickly drew my interest. After some fellow co-workers encouraged me to become a nurse, I went back to school. With the hospital providing tuition reimbursement and flexibility in my scheduling, I succeeded in getting my RN degree. I was able to get a staff nurse job in the OR after some initial training in the Outpatient unit and Recovery room. With a lot of hard work and support from people at Mercy, I have now become the Manager of the Operating Room and PACU.
