Patty
Neuro Trauma Specialist, Neuroscience Administration
Mercy San Juan Medical Center

Primary job duties: building foundation of new programs, maintaining regulatory requirements

"It is important for me to love what I do. I am most excited at work when I get to develop new programs from the ground up. In this position, Mercy has supported and allowed me to be autonomous and bring my own ideas into the development of the program. I’m fascinated by trauma, so the idea of having had the opportunity to develop a program and work in this area was very important to me when we launched trauma services at Mercy San Juan in 1999. I am now assisting in the development of the new neuro- service line and I’m grateful Mercy has provided me with this opportunity. I’ve been here for 29 years, and it is still a tremendous growth experience to be part of saving lives, continually learning and improving quality for our patients.

I’m glad to be part of a team with a great support system at Mercy. People are willing to work together on the things that need to get done at any time, and even across departments. Everyone is important to the whole process. That willingness to help each other - whether or not it’s part of the job - is an important and meaningful part of our work environment. I love the challenge of this job … and the rewards."

Mark
Maintenance Technician, Engineering
Mercy San Juan Medical Center

Primary job duties: building maintenance, emergency repairs

"My job is different every day as a maintenance technician. In addition to scheduled department tasks and daily assignments, I respond to any problems that may be called in – whether it’s plumbing, electrical, grounds equipment or helping someone hang shelves.

I like being able to repair and put rooms and tools in order. I know that I can help other people do their jobs better by doing my job well. At Mercy San Juan, I get to interact with other employees on a personal level. This is a caring organization, with a lot of caring people.

I’m glad to work at Mercy San Juan because people are willing to help each other when you need it. There’s a good feeling here between employees."

“I like Mercy San Juan and the group of people I work with very much. When someone needs help on the job, we help each other. I’m from another country, and when I first started to work here, everyone helped me feel welcome, learn the job and learn about things that were new to me in a new country. I really appreciate the great teamwork.”

Jane, Pediatrics
"One of the reasons both my husband and I decided to work at Mercy is because of the salary and benefits, especially the pension benefit.
