Meet Our PeopleWhat's it like to work for Mercy Hospital of Bakersfield & Mercy Southwest? Find out by viewing our employee videos to understand our culture.
Core values that include integrity and trust provided me with the confidence to relocate my family from the Midwest to Bakersfield and Mercy Hospital. My initial interview with the critical care staff painted a picture of an ICU that continues to hold true today. We are a busy, high acuity unit that cares for a wide variety of Critically Ill patients. The demands on expertise are significant, our patients and families need us. As a team we count on each other. Our goals are set high, and "Nursing care will be the best". Support isn't only among each other. Through collaboration with hospital Administration, management, medical staff, and ancillary departments, our goals are established and met one at a time. I can honestly say the care givers at Mercy are not forgotten. After a 12 hour shift in ICU, I'm ready to return home to focus on other things. The other things include my wife and daughter. We spend our evening planning our next weekend trip. Will it be the mountains, the canyon, the beach, LA, San Francisco, San Diego, or even Las Vegas. We know that they are all only a few hours away. Or maybe we will stay in the community enjoying our life in Southern California.
“I knew from the time that I was in the fourth grade that I would be a nurse, and that I would work at Mercy. I was so impressed by the depth of the Sisters’ compassion for the patients that I knew I needed to be at the hospital.”
“The people here are an absolute blessing in my life. They saw me through divorce, through the death of my second husband, and through my cancer. It doesn’t even feel as if 40 years have passed.”
“So many things have changed over the years, but the quality of people here hasn’t. I can’t imagine spending my career anywhere else.
“I have worked for Mercy Hospitals of Bakersfield for over 10 years. There is a true sense of family here and our values (Dignity, Collaboration, Justice, Stewardship and Excellence) hold true not only while at work, but in our home lives as well. I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.” |
