Specialty AreasNeonatal and Intensive Care Unit: Caring for the youngest, most vulnerable members of our community is one of the many commitments we have made. Memorial provides a Level II NICU. To ensure that our patients receive exceptional care, we strive to give our nurses the support they need. Such as a Clinical Nurse Specialist available on –site in the NICU for education, support, and guidance. We also have a board-certified Neonatologist available to the NICU 24/7. We have Respiratory therapists assigned to the NICU and readily available. The nurses in NICU average over 15 years in the department. Recently, Children’s Miracle Network provided financial support by purchasing Giraffe NICU isolates and other equipment for our newly remodeled 31 bed NICU [ 19 NICU/12 Intermediate] Surgery and Surgical Specialties: Memorial Hospital is by far the leading community. It is a busy department with 10 surgical suites that attracts the profession’s best people. We perform over 900 surgeries a month. A wide variety of surgical procedures are performed in the areas of – ortho, neuro, vascular, endovascular, cardiac, pediatrics, and general. Memorial Hospital is on the leading edge in terms of technology and staff expertise. Now our sate-of-the-art da Vinci Surgery system assists in performing complex yet minimally-invasive surgery procedures. Emergency Department: This Emergency provides the only full service department in Kern County. A 31 bed full-service facility with four Critical Care rooms and two Pediatric beds; treats a variety of cases and a broad demographic population. The fast paced environment and standard of superior patient care attracts exceptional nurses. This creates a unique team that is experienced, well rounded and dedicated. The ER treats 150 patients a day on average. We are the second Stroke Certified Center in the county. There is a Hospitalist on-site to assist patients. A nurse trained in sexual assault is on call 24/7. Located in the ER is a Full time Pharmacist dedicated to meet the department medication needs. Intensive Care Unit: January 2009 opened this facilities New 24 bed state of the art ICU and an eight bed Cardiovascular ICU. Memorial Hospital’s commitment to critically ill patients is apparent in the quality of their Intensive Care nurses. They are a highly trained, dedicated and specialized team focused on delivering high quality care. The high level of patient acuity demands that the ICU nurses be among the top nurses in the area. The average length of employment is 10 years. Actively participating with the hospital stroke program, the sepsis program as well as continued processes such as VAP reduction and CLABSI preventions. This ICU is staffed 2:1 patient to RN and a dedicated cardiovascular surgical recovery team. We have an ICU based Rapid Response Team 24/7. The ICU has patient satisfaction scores consistently in the 90th percentile.
